A goat’s milk cheddar, Chevre Noir’s name derives from the black wax that protects the crystalline whiteness of the cheese. Sharp and delicately herbal, this Quebec cheese won top honours at the 2005 selection Caseus contest, and has garnered international awards and acclaim.

 

Sommelier Jamie Drummond recommends: When I suggest sauvignon blanc please be sure to pick up one of the old-world examples as many Californian and New Zealand bottlings just won’t make this cheese dance in the manner I feel it prefers. Go for Loire Sauvignon, Pouilly Fume or Sancerre… or… if you are feeling a little adventurous, try some of those super crisp aromatic whites from Fruili… Traminer, the more complex Pinot Grigio and (Tocai) Friulano …they even do a damn good Sauvignon Blanc up there. Trust me.
